Reuben Cafe sits comfortably on Symonds Street in Eden Terrace, offering a casual spot that feels just right for a laid-back breakfast or a leisurely coffee break. This cafe draws a diverse local crowd—whether you’re someone who appreciates a well-crafted large latte or after a straightforward black coffee to kickstart the day, Reuben delivers with a reliable consistency that comes from quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation.

The atmosphere here leans toward an unpretentious, slightly cafeteria-style layout, which works well for grabbing a relaxed morning or weekend meal. Seating is cozy but practical, making it easy to settle in with friends or spend some time with your laptop without feeling crowded or rushed. Weekends bring the added bonus of convenient roadside parking—a handy detail in this busy neighborhood.

Menu highlights lean strongly into classics done well: think poached eggs on sourdough toast, the Reuben sandwich, or bacon and eggs accompanied by sourdough. For something on the sweeter side, the pancakes served with compote find favor with regulars. There are also both vegetarian and more substantial all-day breakfast options, alongside lighter choices like granola with fresh fruit or a salmon avocado salad, reflecting a menu range that suits both early risers and those stopping in later for a casual lunch.

The drink selection complements the food well, with options ranging from espresso-based favorites like the ice mocha to fruit-driven blends such as the Classic Green Monster smoothie or the Bloody Hell smoothie. The presence of organic fruit juices adds an extra layer of freshness that appeals for a health-conscious crowd.

Staff at Reuben Cafe come across as genuinely welcoming, contributing to a homely vibe that makes regular visits comfortable. It’s the kind of spot where the team’s attention to detail in both service and food presentation catches the eye without feeling overformal. This approachability pairs well with the thoughtful menu variety, catering to locals who appreciate straightforward, well-executed dishes.

Overall, Reuben Cafe suits those looking for a dependable neighborhood place to enjoy a slow start, a casual catch-up, or a simple but satisfying meal in a relaxed setting. Early mornings and weekend brunch times are particularly good for soaking in the easygoing Eden Terrace pace, with enough menu variety to keep most tastes happy without fuss.

Delicious freshly cooked crumpets! Great variety of options at very reasonable prices. The chocolate mousse is a must-try and the coconut chocolate bites were amazing. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, easy parking on the road on a weekend.

I enjoyed a Chilean(?) style pie filled with beef brisket and also a slice of a custard cake filled with blueberries and strawberries topped with a delightful crumble on top. It is clear a lot of thought has gone into these foods. The beef brisket was how you would expect. Along with a good split between the gravy, meat and pie pastry/bread. Enough to enjoy each part equally. The custard cake held together well, with the crumble notching up the overall sweetness ever so slightly. Making it quite an addictive dessert. If I find myself in this area again, I will be sure to stop by.

Charming staff and beautiful breakfasts Quality ingredients and excellent presentation without being too fussy with the classics. The atmosphere on entrance is a little cafeteria-style given the prices, but it’s a great place to eat

Okay you find yourself wondering around Auckland looking for a great breakfast, not just a good one but a great one. Well look no further then here at Reuben Cafe. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a welcoming smile. Take a few minutes because they have a slightly extensive menu, which I would be bold enough to say, it is all good. After food was ordered we sat in a nicely layed out room with plenty of seating. They also have a very small outdoor seating area. Food came out hot and very well presented (photos below). 3 pancake orders and I got the bacon omelet. All of it was delicious. Also got a couple coffes, latte and mocha. Overall a wonderful experience. You should absolutely make your way there, you and your family and friends will not be disappointed.
